Frequently Asked Questions

What does the AGM Uni-Ball Tool do?

The AGM Uni-Ball Tool lets you remove and install worn uni-balls, also known as spherical bearings, without removing the suspension or steering component from the vehicle.

It gives you a compact, controlled way to press the bearing out and install the replacement without fighting large parts in a shop press or beating on the component with a hammer and punch.

Why do I need a Uni-Ball Tool?

Because replacing uni-balls the old way can be slow, awkward, and hard on expensive parts.

Without the right tool, you may need to remove suspension or steering components from the vehicle, handle large or awkward parts in a press, remove brake lines, fight springs, or use hammer-and-punch methods that can damage the component.

The AGM Uni-Ball Tool makes the repair faster, cleaner, and more controlled.

How does the Uni-Ball Tool work?

After removing the retaining C-clip from the component, place the piston against the worn uni-ball on one side and the receiving cup on the opposite side.

Run the ACME-thread bolt through the piston, uni-ball, and cup, then install the washer and nut. As the nut is tightened, the piston pushes the worn uni-ball out of the component and into the receiving cup.

To install the new uni-ball, flip the cup and piston positions and press the new bearing back into the bore.

Can I replace a uni-ball without removing the component from the vehicle?

Yes. That is the main purpose of the AGM Uni-Ball Tool.

Its compact design allows you to service many uni-balls directly on the vehicle, saving time and reducing the need to remove suspension or steering components.

Can the Uni-Ball Tool install new bearings too?

Yes. The AGM Uni-Ball Tool is designed to remove worn uni-balls and install replacement uni-balls.

For installation, switch the cup and piston to the opposite sides of the component and press the new bearing into place.

How do I know what size Uni-Ball Tool to order?

Match the tool size to the bore size of your uni-ball / spherical bearing.

Common sizes include:

  • 7/8 in. — Size 14 spherical bearing
  • 1 in. — Size 16 spherical bearing
  • 1-1/4 in. — Size 20 spherical bearing
  • 1-1/2 in. — Size 24 spherical bearing

If you are not sure, measure the diameter of the center hole in the uni-ball or confirm the bearing size used in your component.

What sizes are available?

AGM offers Uni-Ball Tools in four sizes:

  • 7/8 in.
  • 1 in.
  • 1-1/4 in.
  • 1-1/2 in.

These correspond to common spherical bearing sizes used in off-road, race, fabrication, suspension, and steering applications.

What comes with each Uni-Ball Tool?

Each AGM Uni-Ball Tool includes:

  • Press cup
  • Press piston
  • ACME-thread bolt
  • Load-bearing washer
  • Nut
What materials are used?

The cup and piston are black oxide coated steel.

The ACME-thread bolt and nut are zinc coated steel.

Can I use an impact wrench?

No. Use hand tools only.

Do not use an impact wrench, impact driver, or powered tool to operate the Uni-Ball Tool. Powered tools can overload the components, damage the tool, or damage the part you are servicing.

Should I lubricate the threads?

Yes. Use anti-seize or suitable thread lubricant on the ACME-thread bolt before operating the tool.

Lubrication helps reduce friction, protects the threads, and makes the tool operate more smoothly.

Can this tool damage my suspension or steering component?

Any press tool can cause damage if used incorrectly.

The AGM Uni-Ball Tool is designed to apply controlled press force, but you still need to confirm proper alignment, use the correct tool size, lubricate the threads, and make sure the bearing is pressing straight.

Who is this tool designed for?

The AGM Uni-Ball Tool is designed for race teams, fabricators, repair shops, and serious DIYers who service spherical bearings in suspension or steering components.

It is useful in the shop, garage, trailer, or alongside the race course.

Is the Uni-Ball Tool covered by Lifetime Shield?

Yes. The AGM Uni-Ball Tool is covered by AGM’s Lifetime Shield.

If something fails due to a covered defect in materials or workmanship, we’ll repair or replace it free.

What if I am not sure which size to buy?

Contact AGM before ordering.

If you can provide the bearing size, center-hole diameter, or information about the component you are servicing, we can help point you toward the correct Uni-Ball Tool.

1.25 uniball install and removal tool.

This works awsome. I purchased it to replace the worn-out 1.25 uniball in my procomp upper control arms and it works as easy as it looks in the AGM how to video. I was expecting replacing the uniball on the vehicle to be a real challege but this tool took all the guess work out of the job. Great people to work with. They answered all of my questions.
